An AI kit that turns "satellite data" into "operations"
Per IThome citing CCTV (July 17), at WAIC 2026's meteorology session the China Meteorological Administration released the "MAZU" Fengyun Satellite AI Box (MAZU-FengYun Satellite AI Box). Built on the Fengyun satellites' global observation system, it uses an integrated hardware-software design combining satellite data reception, AI inference, multi-source data fusion and operational applications.
A one-stop loop for many scenarios
The kit can be quickly deployed to different countries' and regions' needs, flexibly serving internet users, Fengyun direct-reception-station users, CMACast broadcast users and field-emergency scenarios — delivering a one-stop closed loop from data acquisition to intelligent analysis to operations.
The real problem: access ≠ usable
The report notes some countries can obtain satellite data but, limited by network conditions, compute and expertise, struggle to turn it into timely operations. The MAZU box fuses satellite data, forecast products and local observations locally, supporting complex processing and analysis on the ground — its most concrete value: turning "having the data" into "using the data," especially for regions short on compute and talent. It's a strong example of AI landing in science and public-service scenarios.
